### Key points

- The ABHA card is a digital health ID, not health insurance.
- Anyone living in India can create one, with no income or caste limit.
- You need Aadhaar and a mobile number that can receive OTPs.
- Creating it is free and takes only a few minutes online.

## So what does the ABHA card actually do for you?

The ABHA card is a digital health ID. It helps you manage, obtain and share your medical records safely.

Instead of carrying old papers, your prescriptions, lab reports and treatment details can link to one ABHA ID.

You decide which hospital, clinic or lab can see your records. You can also decide how long they can access them.

Important: the ABHA card does not replace health insurance or a government health scheme. It is a record-keeping tool.

## Who can create an ABHA card?

The rule is simple. Any person living in India can create an ABHA ID.

There is no income limit, no health condition limit, and no need for an insurance card.

You do not need to use it for treatment unless you want to. Creating it is your choice.

## What documents do you need to keep ready?

For online registration, you mainly need an identity check. Aadhaar is the most common and recommended document.

You also need a working mobile number that can receive OTPs. This number is used for verification and future messages.

You do not need to upload income proof, medical records, caste certificates or domicile papers for the regular online process.

## How do you create an ABHA card online, step by step?

Go to abha.abdm.gov.in, or open an authorised health app that supports ABHA creation.

Choose the option to create your ABHA number using Aadhaar. Enter your Aadhaar number when asked.

Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number to verify your identity.

Fill in the remaining details, such as your name, date of birth and address, and confirm them.

Create your ABHA address if you want one, then save or download your ABHA card.

## How do you apply offline, if you cannot go online?

You can visit a hospital, clinic or health centre that offers ABHA registration. Many government facilities do this free of cost.

Staff there will help you with the same Aadhaar and OTP steps. Ask them to confirm that no fee is being charged.

## What should you do if you face a problem?

If the OTP does not come, check that your mobile number is linked with your Aadhaar.

If your details do not match, correct them in Aadhaar first, then try again.

Be careful of fraud. No genuine ABHA process asks you to pay an agent or share your OTP with anyone.

For help, use the official ABHA portal or the National Health Authority website.
