A couple from Bengaluru gave up well-paid corporate careers and sold their home to start a samosa business.

Today, the brand is valued at about ₹200 crore.

The couple, Nidhi Singh and Shikhar Veer Singh, are both from Haryana.

They met while studying biotechnology at Kurukshetra University and married in 2010.

Shikhar became a principal scientist at Biocon in Bengaluru.

Nidhi worked in business development at a US pharmaceutical company and earned around ₹30 lakh a year.

### Key points

- A Bengaluru couple sold their flat for about ₹80 lakh to fund their samosa business.
- Samosa Singh is now valued at about ₹200 crore after a funding extension in January 2025.
- Revenue for FY25 rose to ₹18 crore, but the company estimated a net loss of ₹5.7 crore.
- The brand now operates beyond Bengaluru, in cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad.

## Why did they leave good jobs for samosas?

Shikhar had been thinking about a samosa business since his postgraduate years.

He believed the snack could be run like big fast-food chains that sell burgers and pizza.

He resigned from Biocon in October 2015\. The first Samosa Singh outlet opened in Bengaluru in February 2016.

## Where did the money come from?

At first, the couple used their own savings.

Then a large corporate order showed that their small kitchen could not meet bulk demand.

Instead of bringing in outside investors, they sold their flat in Yelahanka for about ₹80 lakh.

That money paid for a bigger kitchen in Electronic City.

The founders also spent more than 10,000 hours on product development, according to the company's website.

Selling a home is a big decision for any family, and they took that risk.

## So is the business making money yet?

Not yet. FY stands for financial year, and FY25 covers April 2024 to March 2025.

Operating revenue, which is money earned from core sales, rose about 30 percent to ₹18 crore from ₹13.9 crore in FY24.

However, the company estimated a net loss of ₹5.7 crore.

That means its expenses, which reached about ₹23.8 crore, were higher than what it earned.

Samosa Singh's revenue vs expenses (FY24-FY25)

Operating revenue FY24₹13.9 crore

Operating revenue FY25₹18 crore

Expenses FY25₹23.8 crore

Estimated net loss FY25₹5.7 crore

Startup Story

### The story so far

1. **The start:** Shikhar left his job at Biocon in October 2015 to build a samosa business.
2. **The turn:** A big corporate order exposed the limits of their kitchen, so they sold their flat instead of taking outside investors.
3. **Now:** The brand is valued at about ₹200 crore, but the company still reports a net loss.

### How it makes money

The company sells samosas and other snacks through delivery, cloud kitchens, retail outlets and catering. It also takes bulk orders from businesses, including corporate, airline and multiplex clients.

### One lesson

Growing sales is not the same as making profit, so track costs closely from the start.
