According to government sources, the trials were done at an altitude of about 30,000 metres.

Last year, cloud seeding in Delhi was carried out at around 10,000 metres. That is a big difference in height.

More trials are likely after Diwali and Chhath, the sources said.

However, the government is unlikely to make any official announcement until after Diwali.

So far, nothing has been confirmed on the record.

ABP News carried this story based on a PTI report.

### Key points

- Two cloud-seeding trials were held in the last 15 days, sources said.
- The trials took place near Indira Gandhi International Airport.
- More trials may come after Diwali and Chhath.
- The government has not yet made an official announcement.

## So how does cloud seeding actually work?

Cloud seeding is a weather-modification technique. It tries to help clouds produce precipitation.

The method involves releasing substances such as silver iodide and sodium chloride into suitable clouds.

These help raindrops or ice crystals form.

## What happened last year, and why is it being tried again?

The Delhi government first launched this project last year.

It worked with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur as an emergency measure against winter pollution.

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 25, 2025.

This formalised the partnership between the Delhi Environment Department and IIT Kanpur.

Two rounds of trials were held in October last year.

Each operation released eight chemical flares containing silver iodide and sodium chloride.

However, the experiments did not bring any rainfall.

The Delhi government later released a report.

It claims the trials helped reduce particulate matter levels at the targeted locations, even without rain.
