# Lakshadweep Education Department invites applications for 19 college faculty posts

The Department of Education of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep has invited online applications to prepare a contract panel of Principals, Assistant Professors and Lecturers for its Government Colleges. ## Where the posts are and who can apply

The Directorate of Education of the Lakshadweep Administration is based at Kavaratti. The panel will serve three institutions under the department: the Government College of Arts & Science, the Government College of Education and the Government Polytechnic College.

The subjects covered range from English and Commerce to Aqua Culture, Food Processing and Mechanical Engineering. Qualifications listed include graduate and postgraduate degrees, MBA/PGDM, MCA, M.E/M.Tech, M.Ed, M.Phil/Ph.D and M.Sc, depending on the post.

The age limit for teaching faculty is 22 to 60 years. For the post of Principal it is 30 to 65 years. For Principal of the Arts & Science College, a regular-mode Ph.D in Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Vocational or Education is essential, as per UGC norms. For most other posts, one to five years of teaching experience in a government-recognised college or institution is desirable, along with a Ph.D in the concerned subject. ## Selection, experience points and other rules

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The department will decide whether it is held in person or online, and the option chosen in the application form is final. A merit or rank list will then be published, and selected candidates must submit their willingness to accept the post immediately afterwards.

One point is given for every 12 months of relevant experience, up to a maximum of five points. Experience certificates that do not carry valid and verifiable details of the issuing authority will be rejected.

A Ph.D holder may be exempted from UGC-NET if the degree was obtained before the UGC cut-off date and all other mandatory UGC conditions are met. Such candidates must also submit a certificate from the university or regulatory authority confirming that the degree follows UGC norms.

Reservation for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates follows Government of India norms. The Departmental Committee will decide the category-wise allocation based on the reservation rules, the number of engagements and the availability of eligible candidates in each category.

## What happens if enough candidates are not found

If enough eligible and qualified candidates are not available for a post, an application may be considered for a separate panel. Pay on that panel will be 10% lower than the prescribed remuneration.
