Maharashtra wants electric vehicles to make up 30 percent of all new vehicle registrations by 2030.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said this under the state's electric vehicle policy.

He spoke at the launch of Mercedes-Benz's all-new GLC Electric.

The event was held at the company's Chakan plant in Pune district on Wednesday.

PSU Watch reported this, and CNBCTV18 carried the same details.

## Why does this matter for jobs and industry?

Fadnavis said Maharashtra accounts for more than 20 percent of India's automobile production.

Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are the main hubs for this work.

He said Mercedes-Benz's Chakan facility directly employs around 1,200 people.

Its supplier and service network supports another 18,000 jobs.

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar also attended the event.

Fadnavis also pointed to Navi Mumbai International Airport, a proposed airport at Purandar and Vadhavan Port in Palghar.
