### Key points

- The scheme covers two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-ambulances, e-trucks, e-buses and charging infrastructure.
- E-2Ws need advanced batteries to qualify. Only the registered e-2Ws count.
- The subsidy is lower than before, and the scheme is limited by funds.
- The last date for submitting claims for e-2Ws is December 31, 2027.

## So what exactly do you get?

The subsidy depends on the type of vehicle, so there is no single amount.

For electric two-wheelers, the incentive is Rs 2,500 per kWh of battery capacity, up to a maximum of Rs 5,000 per vehicle. This applies to vehicles registered from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028.

The incentive is capped at that amount or 15 percent of the ex-factory price, whichever is lower. The maximum ex-factory price of an eligible e-2W is Rs 1.5 lakh.

For e-ambulances, the incentive is the lower of Rs 30,000 multiplied by battery capacity in kWh, or 35 percent of the ex-factory price.

For e-trucks, it is the lowest of Rs 5,000 multiplied by battery kWh, 10 percent of the ex-factory price up to Rs 1.25 crore, or a maximum based on gross vehicle weight.

Amounts can change. Please confirm the current figures on the official site before you buy.

## Which vehicles and buyers are covered?

Two-wheelers: both commercial and privately or corporately owned registered e-2Ws are eligible, but only those with advanced batteries qualify.

Three-wheelers: the scheme covers e-rickshaws and e-carts, and L5 category vehicles. It applies only to e-3Ws registered for commercial use.

E-ambulances: the eligible types are Patient Transport Vehicle, Type B Basic Life Support, Type C Advanced Life Support, and Type D under the AIS 125 standard.

E-trucks: the eligible weight classes are N2 (3.5 to 12 tonnes) and N3 (12 to 55 tonnes), as defined in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

E-buses: the scheme focuses on nine large cities with populations above 40 lakh, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune and Surat.

This scheme is for all of India, so you do not need to live in a particular state.

## Why was the scheme started, and what has changed?

PM E-DRIVE was approved by the Cabinet in September 2024\. It replaced the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme, which ran from April to September 2024.

The earlier FAME schemes focused mainly on individual buyers. PM E-DRIVE puts about 40 percent of its outlay into electric public transport.

The government has extended the e-2W subsidy to March 31, 2028, and raised the total scheme outlay to Rs 11,900 crore.

The scheme is fund-limited. If the total outlay or the allocation for a component runs out, that part can close early.

## What documents should you keep ready?

Keep the vehicle registration papers and the invoice from the manufacturer or dealer.

Keep the battery details, such as capacity in kWh, and the ex-factory price from the dealer.

Keep your identity proof and address proof, and your bank details if the claim involves you directly.

For e-trucks, e-buses and e-ambulances, the operator or company usually handles the paperwork. Check the category portal for the exact list.

## How do you get the benefit?

Most buyers do not apply for the subsidy themselves. The subsidy works through the manufacturer or dealer.

Choose a registered electric vehicle that meets the battery and price rules. Ask the dealer whether the price is already subsidised.

The manufacturer claims the difference from the government. The claim is processed on the official portal.

For e-trucks, use the e-Truck portal. For e-buses, check the official PM E-DRIVE site for the current process.

## What if the subsidy is not showing or the claim is stuck?

First, ask your dealer or manufacturer whether the vehicle is registered and eligible.

Check the official PM E-DRIVE website for updates on the category you are buying.

Be careful of agents who promise quick subsidy approval for a fee. Never pay anyone for this scheme without checking the official site first.

## Any last tips before you buy?

Check the vehicle is registered and has the advanced battery needed for the two-wheeler subsidy.

Confirm the price with the dealer, and ask for the subsidy amount in writing.

Remember that the scheme is limited by funds, so do not delay if you plan to buy with the subsidy.
