## Who can get this free ration, and who cannot?

The main rule is simple. You must hold a valid ration card, either Antyodaya or Priority Household.

The families are identified by the state food department, using the National Food Security Act, 2013.

Families who do not hold a ration card cannot get this benefit. Being poor alone is not enough without the card.

Your ration card has to be active and linked with Aadhaar. Check with your state office if you are unsure about your category.

## What documents should you keep ready?

Keep your ration card ready. This is the main document for this scheme.

Keep your Aadhaar card, and make sure the family members are linked to the ration card.

Keep a mobile number that is linked with your Aadhaar, for OTP and updates.

## How do you collect your free ration?

Go to your assigned fair price shop, also called a ration shop, with your ration card.

The dealer will verify your identity, usually through Aadhaar authentication or a fingerprint.

Then the dealer gives you your share of grain and dal, as per your card entitlement.

In some places, like Chandigarh, the benefit now comes as a digital subsidy. You buy grain from empanelled merchants by scanning a QR code.

## What should you do if your ration is stuck or missing?

First, check with your ration shop dealer, and ask for the entry in your ration card record.

If the problem continues, contact your state food or civil supplies department office.

Many states also run helplines and grievance portals. Look up your state's food department website for the correct number.

Never pay any agent or middleman to get your ration. Government ration is free of cost.

## Where can you check the latest details?

For the current rules and the latest updates, visit the official NFSA portal at nfsa.gov.in.

Details like grain quantity, dal, and rules can change. Always confirm the current figures on the official site or with your state food office.
