## So what exactly does a farmer get?

After you turn 60, you get a guaranteed pension of Rs 3,000 a month.

The pension is for life. It is meant for people who have little or no savings in old age.

During your working years, you pay a monthly contribution. The Centre pays an equal amount into your pension account.

The contribution depends on your age when you join. Joining early means a smaller monthly payment.

## Who can join, and who cannot?

The scheme is for small and marginal farmers. Your cultivable land must be up to 2 hectares.

You must be between 18 and 40 years old when you join.

Farmers who are covered by a government pension scheme, or who pay income tax, are not eligible.

Institutional landholders are also excluded.

## Why was this scheme started, and what has changed?

The scheme was launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Its aim is to give social security to small farmers in their old age, when they cannot earn from farming.

Check maandhan.in for the latest rules, because terms can be revised.

## What documents should you keep ready?

Keep your Aadhaar card and a bank account or savings account linked with Aadhaar.

Keep your land records, such as khatauni or the record of rights, and a mobile number.

A passbook or cancelled cheque helps for the auto-debit of your monthly contribution.

## How do you apply online, step by step?

Go to maandhan.in and choose the registration option for the farmer pension scheme.

Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, bank details and land information.

Carry your Aadhaar card, bank passbook and land papers when you go.

## How do you check your status, and what if payments stop?

Log in to maandhan.in and check your contribution and account status.

If auto-debit fails, make sure your bank balance is enough and your account is linked with Aadhaar.

For problems, contact LIC or the nearest CSC.

## What are the important tips?

Never pay an agent to enrol you. Enrol only through the official portal, a CSC or LIC.

Watch out for fake calls asking for your OTP or bank password. Officials never ask for these.

Joining early keeps your monthly payment low, so do not delay.
