## So what does a farmer actually get from this scheme?

The Rashtriya Gokul Mission supports the breeding and care of indigenous cattle. It aims to improve the genetic quality of cows and buffaloes.

Under the mission, funds have been released for Gokul Grams. These are Integrated Indigenous Cattle Development Centres that conserve and develop native breeds in a scientific way.

Support also covers artificial insemination and better breeding services for dairy animals.

The revised scheme was approved on March 19, 2025, with a total outlay of Rs 3,400 crore for 2021-22 to 2025-26.

Amounts and components can change, so please confirm the current details on the official site.

## Who can benefit, and who is left out?

The scheme mainly helps farmers and livestock keepers who rear indigenous cattle and dairy animals.

Small and marginal farmers are a key focus. Women, who form a large share of livestock labour, are also expected to benefit.

The scheme is a central scheme. It applies across India, but how support reaches you depends on your state and local implementing agency.

People who do not keep or breed cattle may not benefit directly from the breeding support.

## Why was this scheme started, and what has changed recently?

The mission was launched in December 2014 with an initial fund of Rs 500 crore for 2014-15 to 2016-17.

It is run by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries.

It was later continued under the Rashtriya Pashudhan Vikas Yojana. The revised mission was approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2025.
