Scholarships are given to help students with disabilities continue their studies.

The NHFDC scholarship, run for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, gives monthly support. Hostelers get Rs 1,000 a month and day scholars get Rs 700 a month in professional graduate and higher courses.

For diploma and certificate professional courses, hostelers get Rs 700 a month and day scholars get Rs 400 a month.

## Who can apply, and who cannot?

You must be a student with a disability and studying in a recognised institution in India.

For the NHFDC scholarship, the monthly income of the student or the parent or guardian should not be more than Rs 15,000\. That is about Rs 1.80 lakh a year, from all sources.

A scholarship holder under this scheme cannot get another scholarship or stipend at the same time.

The NHFDC scheme is for courses at graduation level and above, as well as diploma and certificate courses.
