India beat New Zealand by four runs in rain-hit second ODI in Wellington

Gurnoor Brar took four wickets as India's bowlers restricted New Zealand to 134. Rain stopped India's chase, and the DLS method gave India the win. India now lead the series 2-0.

ABP News, India Today and Times Now all reported the match. India now lead the five-match series 2-0.

Key points

  • India won the second ODI by four runs on the DLS method.
  • New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs.
  • Gurnoor Brar took 4 wickets for 30 runs, his best figures in his career.
  • India lead the five-match series 2-0.

So how did New Zealand collapse so badly?

New Zealand lost wickets early and never found their rhythm. Auqib Nabi removed Tim Seifert for a duck in the second over.

The reports differ on the next wickets. ABP News said Anshul Kamboj removed Will Young and Henry Nicholls.

India Today said Nabi got Young, and Kamboj got Nicholls. At that stage, New Zealand were 23 for 3.

Brar then struck twice in one over. He removed Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips, and New Zealand were 53 for 5.

Daryl Mitchell offered the most resistance, scoring 55 off 104 balls.

Mitchell Santner added 31, and their 59-run stand briefly steadied the innings.

Why did India's chase turn so nervous?

India were chasing only 135, but the top order struggled. Shubman Gill was out for a golden duck, and Virat Kohli made seven.

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul steadied the innings with a 46-run stand.

Iyer made 30 before falling to a short ball from Kyle Jamieson.

Rahul was not out on 26, according to ABP News. India Today gave his score as 23 not out.

India were 113 for 7 after 26 overs when rain stopped play.

They were four runs ahead of the DLS par score, so the win was secured.

What does this mean for the rest of the series?

India now lead the series 2-0, with three matches still to play. India Today said the middle order still needs work.

Times Now gave bowling figures for Jacob Duffy and Kyle Jamieson that do not match the other reports.

Those figures should be read with care.

The sources do not say when the next match will be played.
