Free Press Journal reported the toss and the bowling decision. India Today has been covering the match live from the ground.

New Zealand are trying to bounce back after losing the first match in Auckland. India lead the five-match series 1-0.

Key points

  • India won the toss and captain Shubman Gill chose to field first.
  • Auqib Nabi took his maiden ODI wicket early in New Zealand's innings.
  • New Zealand were 4 for 1 after three overs.
  • India lead the series 1-0 after a win in Auckland.

So what happened in the early overs?

India Today said Arshdeep Singh and Auqib Nabi made life hard for the New Zealand batters.

Both bowlers used the width of the crease well.

The pitch had moisture in it. So the ball swung and seamed, and it came off the pitch at uneven pace.

Arshdeep had bowled three overs without a wicket, and he had given away only three runs. Nabi then got the breakthrough.

Nabi is a fast bowler from Kashmir. At 30, he picked up the first wicket of his ODI career.

The ball went up towards mid on, and Anshul Kamboj took the catch.

Note that the sources differ on the dismissal. One live report says Tim Seifert was caught by Kamboj.

Another scorecard describes Will Young being caught behind.

So why does this series matter for fans in India?

India won the first ODI in Auckland by five wickets. The match was affected by rain, so the target was revised.

New Zealand were bowled out for 185.

India chased the revised target of 143 in 22.4 overs, under the DLS method, which sets a new target after rain.

What happens next in Wellington?

India have kept the same playing XI. Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav are not in the team yet, according to India Today.

Gill said bowling first was always the plan, given the rain and the conditions.

New Zealand have also made no changes, despite injury problems since the T20 series.

The series has five matches, and New Zealand will want to level it.

The match is still in progress, so the situation can change quickly.
