Who can apply, and who cannot?

This scheme is only for residents of West Bengal.

The girl must be unmarried and aged 13 to 18 years.

She must be enrolled in Class VIII to XII in a government recognised school, open school, or a vocational or technical course.

Earlier there was a family income limit of Rs 1,20,000 a year. The government has recently removed this limit, so every girl can now apply.

Girls with special needs, girls who have lost both parents, and girls living in Juvenile Justice homes have special relaxations.

Why was this scheme started?

The scheme was started by the West Bengal government to keep girls in school.

It helps poor families so they do not marry off daughters early because of money problems.

It is run by the Women and Child Development department of the state government.

The scheme has won international recognition, including a United Nations public service award in 2017.

What documents should you keep ready?

Keep the girl's Aadhaar card and her birth certificate or age proof ready.

Keep her school or college enrolment proof and a recent photograph.

Keep the family's income certificate if asked, and a bank account in her name.

Check the official site for the full and latest document list before you apply.

How do you apply online, step by step?

Go to wbkanyashree.gov.in and open the application section.

Register with the mobile number and fill in the girl's personal and education details.

Upload the required documents and bank details, then submit the form.

Keep the application number safe so you can check the status later.

Can you apply offline, through your school?

Yes. Many students apply through their school, college or institute.

Ask the school office or the teacher in charge about the scheme and the form.

They can help you fill the form and verify the details before submission.

How do you check status, and what if the money is stuck?

Log in to the official portal and check the application status using your application number.

If the payment is delayed, check that the bank account is correct and linked properly.

You can also contact your school or the district office for help.

What should you watch out for?

Never pay any agent or person to apply for this scheme. Applying is free.

Use only the official website for applying and checking status.

If you are unsure, ask your school office or the district Women and Child Development office.
