So what exactly does a farmer get?
Every eligible farmer family gets up to Rs 6,000 a year.
The money comes in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each.
It goes straight into the bank account linked with Aadhaar. No middleman handles it.
The scheme began in December 2018 and was first launched on 24 February 2019 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Amounts and rules can change, so please confirm the current figure on the official site.
Who can apply, and who cannot?
The basic rule is simple. The family must own cultivable land, and the land records must show it.
Some people are left out even if they own land. Institutional landholders are out. So are people who hold or held constitutional posts.
Serving or retired central and state government employees are out too. Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D employees are the exception.
Retired people with a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 or more cannot apply. Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year cannot apply either.
Registered doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects who practise their profession are also excluded.

What will you need to keep ready?
Keep your Aadhaar card and a bank account linked with Aadhaar.
Keep your land papers, such as khatauni or the record of rights, and a mobile number.
e-KYC is a must. You can do it with an OTP on the portal, at a CSC, or through the PM-Kisan app.
What should you check if the money does not come?
First, open Know Your Status on the portal. Use your registration number or mobile number.
Most stuck payments are due to three things. e-KYC is not done, the bank account is not linked with Aadhaar, or the land is not verified.
You can also call the PM-Kisan helpline, 155261 or 011-24300606.
