Key points

  • It is a central scheme, open to eligible people across all India.
  • Fish farm help covers ponds, cages, hatcheries, nurseries and aeration equipment.
  • Some district offices also offer subsidised two-wheelers with ice boxes for fish vendors.
  • Check the official portal or your district office for current deadlines and amounts.

So what kind of help does the scheme give?

PMMSY gives money to build fishing infrastructure. This includes harbours, fish landing areas, fish markets, fish feed facilities, fish seed farms and fish processing units.

Fish farmers can get money for building ponds, cages, hatcheries and nurseries. It also helps with aeration systems and other equipment.

The scheme supports scientific fishery management, management plans and information systems.

Fish farmers can also get a subsidy linked to credit, to help them start fish farming as a business.

For marketing and export, the scheme helps set up cold chains, processing units and packaging facilities.

Amounts and rates can change, so please confirm the current figures on the official site.

Who can apply, and who cannot?

The scheme is meant for people working in fisheries. This includes fish farmers, fisherfolk and fish vendors.

Some local schemes have their own rules. For example, a recent district scheme for fish vendors in Hyderabad in 2025-26 asked for prior experience in fish sales and a valid driving licence.

People who have already taken benefits under earlier schemes may not be eligible for the same help again.

Eligibility rules differ by component and by year, so read the notice for the exact scheme you want.

What about the vending vehicle subsidy example?

In Hyderabad district, 16 subsidised two-wheelers with ice boxes were sanctioned for fish vendors under PMMSY for 2025-26.

Each unit costs Rs 75,000. The subsidy is Rs 30,000 for general category applicants, Rs 45,000 for women, and Rs 30,000 each for SC and ST applicants.
