Key points

- The refill subsidy is paid per cylinder, up to a yearly limit.
- Biometric Aadhaar e-KYC is now compulsory for the subsidy.
- Subsidy can stop if e-KYC is not completed.
So what exactly does a family get?
Eligible women get a new LPG connection free of charge under the scheme.
The connection comes with a first refill and a stove, as provided by the distributor.
After that, the family buys refills at the market price. The government gives a subsidy on each refill.
The subsidy has been Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder, and the government has raised it to Rs 300 for recent years. It is paid for up to 12 refills a year, and the exact cap has been revised over time.
Amounts can change, so please confirm the current subsidy on the official site.
Who can apply, and who cannot?
The main beneficiary must be an adult woman from a poor household.
Families listed under the Below Poverty Line, and households from SC and ST communities, are given priority.
The family must not already have an LPG connection in its name or in any member's name.
Households that are not poor, and families with an income taxpayer, are generally not eligible.
Check the latest eligibility rules on the official site, since the criteria have been widened over time.
What should you keep ready before you apply?
Keep your Aadhaar card and the bank account passbook, linked with Aadhaar.
Keep a ration card or any proof of the family's poor status, and a recent address proof.
Keep a passport size photo and a mobile number that is in your name or your family's name.
Biometric e-KYC is compulsory now, so the woman must be ready to give fingerprints at the distributor.

How do you apply offline, and where?
You can also visit a nearby LPG distributor such as Indane, HP or Bharatgas.
Take your Aadhaar, bank passbook, ration card and photo with you.
The distributor will help you fill the form and complete the verification.
How do you check the subsidy, and what if it is stuck?
First, complete biometric e-KYC at your gas agency if you have not already done so.
The subsidy is credited to the bank account given in your PMUY application.
If the money is delayed, check that your Aadhaar is linked with the bank account and that e-KYC is done.
You can ask your LPG distributor, or use the grievance options on the PMUY portal.
What are the important tips and warnings?
Never pay any agent or middleman for a PMUY connection. The scheme is free.
Do not share your Aadhaar, OTP or bank details with anyone who calls you about the scheme.
Subsidy rules and amounts have been revised several times, so always check the official site.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PMUY connection really free?
Yes, the connection itself is given free to eligible women. Never pay an agent for it.
Is there a last date to apply?
The scheme has been running since 2016 and was extended as Ujjwala 2.0. Check pmuy.gov.in for the latest status.
Why has my subsidy not come?
Usually the biometric e-KYC is pending, or the bank account is not linked with Aadhaar. Complete both and check again.
Can I get the subsidy in UP on Diwali and Holi?
Some state governments announce extra cylinder benefits. These depend on state rules, so check with your state government and your distributor.
Can a PMUY connection be transferred to another person?
Transfers are generally not allowed. Ask your distributor for the current rule before making any change.
