Sony has brought back a classic.

The company has launched the MDR-3R, a new version of the wired headphones that first came with the original Walkman in 1979.

The Walkman was a portable music player that changed how people listened to music on the go.

Its headphones are still remembered by many people today.

The biggest change is the plug. The old headphones used a vintage connector.

The new model uses USB-C, the port found on many modern phones.

This means you can plug it in without Bluetooth pairing.

Because it is wired, you do not need to worry about battery life or charging.

Key points

  • Sony has launched the MDR-3R, a modern take on its 1979 Walkman headphones.
  • It connects with a USB-C cable, so there is no Bluetooth pairing.
  • The US price is $59.99. A Stranger Things edition costs $79.99.
  • The price and launch date for India have not been announced yet.

So what makes it different from the old pair?

Sony says the MDR-3R copies the light, open-ear design of the original.

It has a sturdy metal headband and an adjustable fit for longer comfort.

The standard model comes with blue and orange ear pads that you can swap.

The packaging and instruction manual also follow the retro theme.

Inside, the headphones use re-engineered 23 mm driver units. These are the parts that produce sound.

Sony says they are tuned for natural vocals.

The headset also has an in-line remote for playback controls. A built-in microphone lets you take calls.

Sony has said it is not recommended to use these with Walkman players.

What about the Stranger Things edition?

Sony also partnered with Netflix to make a special edition. It is inspired by the show's 1980s setting and the character Max.

This version has red and black earpads, an engraved logo, and customised retro packaging.

It costs $79.99 in the United States.

Can you buy it in India yet?

Not yet. Sony has only shared prices for international markets so far.

The Indian price and the local launch date have not been announced.

If you are planning to buy, you will need to wait for an official statement from Sony about availability and pricing in India.
